FAQ

How long will it take me to learn to drive?

Unlike in some other European countries, there is not yet a mandatory minimum length of training, although this may change over the next few years.

There is a very strong correlation between age and time it takes to learn. With young learners an absolute minimum of 40 hours with a qualified professional plus 20 hours private practice is recommended.  Older learners may require considerably longer.

How do I know your Instructors are up to the job?

Our Instructors are all fully qualified Approved Driving Instructors (ADI). This means they have passed three rigorous tests to qualify, and ongoing 'check-tests', from the approving body the Government's Driving Standards Agency (DSA). Government figures show that only 3 in 100 people who begin the process actually go on to qualify as an ADI.

Additionally, our Instructors undergo regular Continuing Professional Development training and hold further qualifications in Driving Instruction.

Our instructors have passed a recognised Fleet Trainer Qualification, which enables them to assess and coach business vehicle users.

OK - I'm convinced, but how do I know your Instructors are otherwise vetted?

Our Instructors are all Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked and have no criminal convictions. Also, to be an ADI, the DSA must approve the individual as a "Fit and Proper" person to be in a position of responsibility. This is an additional safeguard to prevent people from working as an ADI, who may not have criminal convictions, but could be otherwise unsuitable.

How much do driving lessons cost with DriveAll?

Prices start at £18 per hour, depending on the course you want to take. Please fill the Enquiry Form and we can give you a price based on your choices.

How much will it cost overall to learn to drive with an Approved Driving Instructor?

As each person is different, and learns at a different pace, it is not possible to say exactly how long it will take, and therefore be able to give an exact cost. An instructor will have an approximate idea of how long an individual learner might take, after a few lessons. At DriveAll, we want you to pass as soon as possible, so you will not be paying for lessons longer than you have to.

What are the legal requirements for supervising a learner?

Any person wishing to supervise a learner driver must be over the age of 21 and must have held (and still hold) a full licence, in the relevant vehicle category, for three years. A supervising driver should NOT normally seek to teach the learner new skills, as that is the job of the qualified instructor. Things may be done differently since the supervisor learned to drive! The supervising driver’s aim should be to keep the learner, other road-users and the vehicle safe, and guide the learner where required.

Can I take a test in my car?

Yes. The car must be of a type deemed suitable for test, roadworthy, insured for the purpose of the test and fitted with “L” plates and dual mirror. Although legally a candidate’s car can be used, it’s worth considering that any car not fitted with dual-controls may cause a Driving Examiner to be somewhat less relaxed than if the test was in a driving school vehicle. Examiners are more used to conducting tests in driving school cars now than in years gone-by (see “UK Car Driving Test”, left).

Can I drive manual car when I have passed my test in an automatic?

No. Your licence will be restricted to automatic vehicles only.

Can I drive an automatic car after I have passed my test in a manual car?

Yes. The manual licence allows you to drive both manual and automatic transmission cars.

What make and model of cars do you have, and are they safe?

New Peugeot 207 5-door dual-controlled cars. The 207 has the highest EuroNCAP safety rating of 5-stars. See HERE
