Pass Plus

The government Pass Plus (PP) scheme was introduced to provide full licence holders, (usually, but not exclusively new drivers) with extra tuition, some of which was not able to be taught under a provisional licence..

PP experience is valuable and appreciated by many UK insurers who are part of a scheme offering good discounts on car insurance

Most new drivers can benefit from PP. Young drivers, especially those aged between 17 and 30, can obtain significant discounts on insurance premiums.

The PP scheme is a minimum of six hours and, crucially, there is NO TEST at the end. Your instructor signs you off when the required standard is reached. The objective is to reach or exceed a satisfactory level of competence in 6 modules. These are:

Rural driving, night-driving; all-weather-driving; urban driving; dual-carriageway driving and motorway driving. Where it is not possible to perform a module, for example rural driving, due to distance, the topic is covered in theory, and any spare time made up on other topics.

During our sessions learners are tasked to plan and follow a route. This can be an interesting challenge for a new driver. Drivers learn how to cope safely with route-planning and how to deal with getting lost in unfamiliar places.

Many drivers who complete a PP course will say that they learned a lot from the motorway and dual-carriageway sessions. Whilst some learners cover dual carriageways during their normal lessons, motorway driving can be very different, and PP provides a way for new drivers to learn motorway skills safely with an expert driver beside them.

Pass Plus can take place in the driver’s own car if required.
